Centralized SCADA & Fleet Remote Monitoring System for TMS Tankers
September 10, 2026Hi Pro Electronics Undertakes Major SCADA & AGC Integration Project Across Six Power Plants in Nigeria
Hi Pro Electronics E.E., has been engaged by Heirs Technologies Limited as a technical implementation partner for a major power-generation automation project covering six power plants operated by TransAfam Power Limited and Transcorp Power Limited in Nigeria.
The project represents an important milestone in Hi Pro Electronics’ expanding activities in the power generation sector, combining SCADA, PLC/RTU, Energy Metering, Industrial Communications, TCN Data Transmission and Automatic Generation Control (AGC) integration within a multi-site implementation.
Six Power Plants Covered
The project covers the following generating facilities:
TransAfam Power Limited
- Afam III Power Plant
- Afam Ughelli Power Plant
- Afam V Power Plant
Transcorp Power Limited
- Delta II Power Plant
- Delta III Power Plant
- Delta V Power Plant
Phase 1 – SCADA, PLC/RTU, Energy Metering & TCN Data Transmission
Status: Successfully Completed, Tested & Accepted
Phase 1 involved the engineering, supply, installation, configuration, integration, testing and commissioning of the systems required for the acquisition, processing and transmission of plant operational and electrical data.
The project scope included:
- Site surveys and assessment of existing SCADA, PLC/RTU, metering, protection and communication infrastructure
- SCADA and RTU system engineering
- Supply and integration of PLC/RTU equipment and industrial communication devices
- Industrial firewall and network configuration
- Energy meter installation and integration
- Acquisition of electrical measurements, plant operating parameters, equipment statuses and alarms
- Signal mapping and SCADA database engineering
- Integration of PLCs, RTUs, protection relays, energy meters, gateways and intelligent electronic devices
- Industrial communication network and protocol configuration
- Troubleshooting and optimization of communication infrastructure
- Functional testing and final commissioning
A major milestone of Phase 1 was the successful establishment of end-to-end plant data transmission to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
Plant operational data and electrical parameters were successfully transmitted to TCN for remote monitoring, followed by signal verification, communication testing and acceptance.
Phase 2 – Automatic Generation Control (AGC) Integration
Status: Awarded & Currently in Progress
Following the successful completion of Phase 1, Hi Pro Electronics E.E. / Intellect Automation Solutions Ltd was also engaged to undertake the second phase of the project across the same generating facilities.
Phase 2 expands the existing automation and communication infrastructure to enable remote Automatic Generation Control (AGC) functionality.
The ongoing engineering scope includes:
- Collection and mapping of additional plant signals required for AGC
- SCADA and PLC/RTU system expansion
- Additional PLC/RTU programming and database development
- Integration of measurements, statuses, alarms, commands and feedback signals
- Engineering and integration of GE Speedtronic / turbine speed and load control systems
- Implementation of remote MW/load setpoint commands
- Command/status handshaking and feedback
- AGC permissives and operational interlocks
- Industrial gateway, firewall and communication network modifications
- Integration of AGC commands with plant SCADA and PLC/RTU systems
- End-to-end testing and commissioning
Expanding Our Power Generation Automation Capabilities
The project demonstrates Hi Pro Electronics’ growing capability to execute complex, multi-site industrial automation projects involving legacy and modern control systems, industrial communication networks and power-generation control infrastructure.
By combining SCADA engineering, PLC/RTU integration, industrial networking, energy metering, GE Speedtronic integration and AGC functionality, Hi Pro Electronics and Intellect Automation Solutions provide an integrated engineering approach from initial site survey and system design through installation, programming, testing and commissioning.
The successful completion of Phase 1 across all six power plants, including TCN data transmission and acceptance, provides the foundation for the ongoing implementation of advanced remote generation-control functionality under Phase 2.
